King's Bruton vs Millfield in the Regional Round of the English Schools Chess Championship

The King’s Bruton Chess Team were in action against Millfield in the Regional Round of the English Schools Chess Championship.

Having qualified for the first time, we were excited going into the match, but we were aware of Millfield’s prowess. The KSB team has an average rating of about 1200, whereas the Millfield team has an average rating of around 1500.

One by one our top 3 players (Fred F, Ludo W and Gabriel R) succumbed to the better players. Then Luke J won a match against their only unranked player. Zak H and Jan-Eric Q put up a strong fight, and for a while it looked like we had a chance of achieving a 3-3 result, but first Zak and then Jan-Eric lost their games.

Final score: 5 - 1 to Millfield.
