An interesting Academic Forum...
The most academic pupils at King's Bruton were invited to attend the half-termly meeting of the Academic Forum. This time, pupils learnt about GCHQ, who state that 'puzzles are at the heart of our vital work', before pupils then had a go at solving two extremely difficult puzzles themselves - one based on created languages, another a visual puzzle.
In the second half of the session, pupils wrote their own 'Zander letter' in teams, an exercise in visualising the steps needed to enhance their own academic performance in the future, developed by Benjamin Zander, the conductor of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra. Pupils also had the chance to borrow something to read from a selection of books focusing on performance and achievement.
It was lovely to see pupils from all year groups attending and working collaboratively, and to celebrate the academic calibre of these pupils, many of whom are in the process of exploring and preparing to apply for highly competitive university places, such as at the universities of Oxford and Cambridge, as well as for Medicine, Veterinary Medicine and Dentistry.
