Our Chess Team have qualified for the next round of the English Schools Championship...
A team of chess players travelled to Bristol Grammar School for the English Chess Federation’s Qualifier Competition. It was a big event, 166 pupils in 28 teams from 18 schools took part.
- In Round 1 we played against Redland Green School and achieved a draw (3 - 3).
- In Round 2 we played against Churchill School and won (4 - 0).
- In Round 3 we played against Bristol Grammar School and lost (1 - 5).
- In Round 4 we played against Clifton High School and won (4 - 2).
- Player of the Match: Gabriel R with 3 wins.
All other players achieved 1 or 2 wins: Robert B, Luke J, Jan Eric Q, Daniel J and Oscar D.
This was the best set of results that King’s Bruton has ever achieved in 6 years of taking part in this competition. We ended up in 8th place out of 18 schools, but more importantly, we have qualified for the next round of the English Schools Championship. This means that we will progress to the Regional Knockout Round, where we will compete against other schools in our region until we are knocked out or make it to the National Final.
