A fascinating and inspirational Creative Industries talk to kick start the academic year...
On Monday 25th September, we launched our inaugural Creative Industries event held in the Hauser & Wirth Recital Hall with our A Level Art & Design cohort. We welcomed four influential guest speakers including Chris Roberts from Central Saint Martins, Ice House Design & Studio Louise along with an International renowned photographer, David Ryle. The Creative Industries talk was a smash hit with our pupils as our guest speakers shared insights into their creative practice and the inspirational figures who had given them the initial catalyst to kick start their careers. The discussion points covered during the evening focused on sharing project highlights, individual experiences, and various roles within the industry. This was a golden opportunity to give our artists encouragement to begin to consider their next steps and to explore what their potential future creative career may look like?
Each speaker openly shared their own experiences of navigating the world of Art & Design; however, it was fascinating to hear each one reinforcing the benefits of collaborating, problem solving and the importance of finding your own areas of interests as part of preparing for success in the creative field beyond education. A key take away was the agreement from all in the room was the importance of giving yourself time to find your feet and space to be able to grow in confidence. Whilst there is no better way to develop than working alongside other people from a multitude of disciplines and backgrounds. A move towards taking a foundation diploma in Art & Design feels like the best way to step outside the classroom as our pupils are gearing up to embark on their next steps.
A huge thank you all to our inspiring guest speakers for contributing to a wonderfully enriching event and we hope our artists can use this as a platform to ask further questions and find out what opportunities are open to them. In the meantime, we are preparing for the forthcoming UCAS Creative Career Showcase event in October.

"It is always fascinating to explore how much diversity there is within the creative industries. From brand marketing at Ice House Design to freelance photography by David Ryle. What I found most encouraging was that foundation art courses don’t necessarily result in having to pursue art afterwards as Chris Roberts from Central Saint Martins described the foundation course as ‘the art equivalent of a gap year’ being a real opportunity to try new things and meet new creatives." - U6th Form Artist - Ellie
