The Senior Girls' 1st XI Football vs Sherborne Girls...
The Senior Girls' 1st XI Football team enjoyed a physical encounter at Sherborne Girls against their 2nd XI in what was our first ever 11-a-side fixture. The level of effort and desire to succeed was evident throughout the team. In the first half, King's played defensively and had several half chances on the counter attack, with Lucy linking up with Hannah very well as a constant outlet on the left, and Agatha upfront producing some swift and incisive moves, but Sherborne were largely in control, as we found our feet in the match. After a reorganisation at the break, the team started to gel more and we came into the game as an attacking force, controlling the centre of midfield through Ruby and Phoebe. As the match reached its conclusion, some key defensive tackles from Gracie, and some confident handling in goal from Mia, kept everything calm at the back. Towards the end, Agatha was taken down when through on goal, but the resulting freekick went just wide and with two minutes remaining, one swift counter and an excellent shot from Sherborne’s number 9 produced the decisive moment as they scored to make it 1-0, it remained that way to the end. The girls enjoyed the step up in class and are looking forward to the next match.
Final Score: Sherborne Girls 2nd XI 1-0
