Saturday evening was a truly joyous occasion as nineteen pupils personally chose to confirm their Christian faith...
We were delighted to welcome the Rt Rev’d Dr Michael Beasley - the new Bishop of Bath & Wells. Polly and Reuben delivered our Bible readings with great skill. Bishop Michael then preached off these passages and encouraged us all to seek to live distinctive lives - daily seeking to live out the faith we profess. It was especially wonderful to see Max and Daniel (from New House and Blackford House) choose to be baptised before being confirmed. Immediately after each candidate was confirmed, they were presented with a Bible - reminding them of the truth of Psalm 119:105 - that God’s word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. Jeevan, Phoebe and Max led us in our prayers, and it was particularly fitting to end the service with the Lord’s Supper - reminding us of the truth at the heart of the Christian faith: salvation through the death of Jesus Christ.
Particular thanks must go to the Chapel Choir (under the expert guidance of Mr Marshfield) for singing so wonderfully. Likewise, we are deeply grateful to Bishop Michael for coming to take the service on a Saturday evening at such a busy time of year. Confirmation is not the destination, but rather a significant step in an individual’s faith journey - thus, I look forward with excitement to see how the candidates seek to live out their faith.
