Hockey

It was a busy week of hockey with the 1st XI and U15 teams in cup action midweek before a block fixture with Exeter on Saturday. The 1st XI defeated Bryanston 7-0 with a very mature and impressive performance in the cup, with Harriet producing a Player of the match performance. They can now look forward to an exciting fixture versus Millfield after half term in Round 2.

Unfortunately, the U15 cup team went down 2-0 to a good Dauntsey’s team with Minnie producing an excellent performance to be named Player of the match.

Results versus Exeter School were as follows:

1st XI: Won 7 - 0: Goals - Player of the match: Maja

2nd XI: Won 5 - 0: Goals - Player of the match: Freya

U15A: Lost 5 - 0: Player of the match: Florence with special mention to Mae

U14A: Won 5 - 0: Goals - Player of the match: Sascha

U14B: Won 4 - 2: Goals - Player of the match: Anstice

Badminton

Senior boys vs Downside:

Lost 19-10.

Louie and Harry started well in their opening doubles games, they managed to win both matches after some long baseline exchanges and intense rallies. At the half-way stage it was all square at 4-4. Unfortunately, King's could not maintain the same form in the singles, and with some critical errors at pivotal moments they lost 15-6 in the singles to make it a 19-10 loss overall. The player of the week goes to Frank for his competitive attitude and pro active play. He managed to win all his singles games comfortably.

Athletics

Rory and Robert went to Bedford International Athletics Arena on Saturday 17th September for the Finals of the Combined Events Athletics, where they proudly represented Somerset Athletics Team. Competing over 5 events, hurdles, long jump, shot putt, high jump and 800m, they gained points for their performances, which is totalled up for a final score. Both boys worked very hard, despite having a summer off after the athletics season. Rory finished 20th and Robert 36th in the UK.

Football vs Stonar

Fantastic opening to the match with King’s taking the ascendancy with our forward line-up stretching play and taking the game to Stonar. After 6 minutes Jack scored with a great finish after a good move. We were leading, on the front foot and momentum was on our side. As a team we looked solid, moving the ball around well and we carried forward a positive team spirit in all areas of the pitch. However, Stonar scored two from defensive errors, despite us being the better team, to round off a 10-minute passage of play that turned the game on its head.

The 2nd half remained very even, a close midfield battle ensued with Jay and Ewan adding flare to the midfield and linking play well and we had a series of half chances, but it never quite came together and when it did their keeper was on hand to make some good saves. Stonar scored a third after we made some changes in the last 5 minutes to give some players some game time. Great performance, the team was left rueing the chances that slipped away as overall they were the better footballing team. Man of the match goes to Jay for his impressive all-round display, he was the engine and driving force within the team. Jay was unplayable at times and should be pleased with his team performance breaking down and linking play in all areas of the pitch.
