Easter Term Week 2 Sports Roundup.

Hockey

The boys’ hockey teams enjoyed a successful block fixture with Clayesmore. The 1st XI produced their best performance of the season against a spirited Clayesmore team who had an outstanding goal keeper. An accomplished attacking display in the second half saw King’s run away 6-1 winners with goals coming from Leonard (2), Sam, Theo, Angus and Toby with Sam being voted Man of the Match.

The 2nd XI played well in parts as they won 2-0. Man of the Match was Liam who controlled the defence well as goals from Ben and Rian secured victory.

The 3rd XI match in numbers...80% possession, 90% territory, lost 1-0 with Mr Daws and Mr Walker still not sure how their side did not win the game!

The 4th XI produced a flawless team performance to win 9-0 with Rowan and Cliff being awarded joint Players of the Match.

On the junior side, the U15As found themselves up against a strong Clayesmore team who had won this fixture very convincingly last season. However the King’s boys demonstrated the progress they have made as although they lost 4-1, they were trying to play the right hockey with Man of the Match Freddie controlling the midfield and Oscar scoring the goal.

The U15Bs went down 3-0 in a close game which could have been different had a couple of chances found themselves going in the goal as opposed to flashing past the far post.

The U14As played very well to get the win against Clayesmore who had a fantastic keeper who made some outstanding saves. King’s scored two well worked goals, both finished by Jay and assisted by Ollie to make the final score 2-0 to King’s. Man of the Match was Captain Hugo.

Mr Stainton likens the U14B match to the Thriller in Manila as King’s did all but score in their match which finished 0-0. Despite hitting the woodwork three times, which included Man of the Match, Harry, denting the Clayesmore post with a thunderbolt of a shot, they just couldn’t find a way to score in an entertaining match.

Netball

The Inter-House Netball Tournament took place on Saturday and winning houses will receive their trophies in the end of term assembly

Rugby Sevens

King’s kicked off the 7’s season in fine fashion in superb weather conditions. We put two teams out against Clayesmore, Milton Abbey and 2 teams from Prior Park. The 1st team started well against a very strong Prior Park team and were unlucky to come away with the draw, 12-12. We then completely out played Clayesmore winning 24-0. The 1st team finished with style and out worked Milton Abbey. Pete and Ivo working extremely hard in defence helping to secure an unbeaten run. Final score 29-7.

Our 2nd team put in some very strong performances and won 24-19 against Clayesmore. They then went on to beat Prior Park's 2nd team 26-14. They battled hard against the Prior Park 1st team and only just lost out in the final play. Special mention goes to Charlie for his individual brilliance, beating 5 defenders and running in a 60 meter try. However, Man of the Tournament goes to Oliver who was superb at 10. We only lost 1 game out of 6 as a squad.

Mr Hawley concludes that he is excited for the season ahead and very proud of how both teams represented the school.

Equestrian

The King’s riders competed at Moreton Equestrian Centre on Sunday in a National Schools Equestrian and Windsor Horse Qualifier in both the 90cm and 1M classes. We were one of 30 teams competing from all over the South West. Marcia riding Rhuby as an individual and Kizzy in the team, Sam on Olly, Patrick on April and Amy on Heigh Ho Silver, finished on a total team score of 4 faults in the 90 cm class and narrowly missed out on qualifying as 5 teams also finished on 4 faults. Our accumulative time pushed us to 6th place but still a very impressive achievement against tough opposition. Amy, Marcia and Sam then competed in the 1M class but it was a tough course with a number of related distance fences that unfortunately caught us out, but everyone finished positively and enjoyed the experience in a very big competition. Well done.

Teams of the Week

The team of the week goes to the boys 1st Hockey XI for a controlled win against Clayesmore.
