On Monday, sixteen L6th Form and U6th Form chemists travelled to Sherborne for an evening symposium.
The King's chemists were joined by pupils from Sherborne Boys' School, Sherborne Girls' School and Leweston. The event began with a talk given on the discovery, effects and extraction of digoxin. This was followed by presentations on the chemistry of allergies, the synthesis and uses of paracetamol, new elements (nihonium, moscovian, oganesson and tennessine) and microplastics. Kirsty, Harriet and Holly from King's delivered a very engaging talk on the synthesis and use of ivermectin to cure onchocerciasis. My congratulations to them on such an engaging and in-depth presentation.
