A sports round up from our Director of Sport, Henry Eriksson...

It has been a hugely positive start to the academic year from a sporting point of view, with the welcome return of inter-school fixtures and the increased opportunities available for our pupils to represent the School on the sports pitches. We have seen our rugby, hockey, football and badminton teams in action, and I have been very impressed with the attitude, effort and skill level shown by everyone involved.

The boys’ rugby teams have made huge progress throughout the first half of term, with our junior teams finishing half-term strongly with comprehensive victories versus Gillingham School. More pleasing though, is the improvement they have made to date, and we look forward to seeing them develop further after half-term. Equally, the 1st and 2nd teams have produced some excellent performances despite dealing with a number of injuries, and the 1st XV were unlucky not to defeat Exeter School in a match which finished 20-20.

On the hockey side, our girls’ teams have performed very well, with the 1st, 2nd XI and U15A teams remaining unbeaten in their block fixtures. The 1st XI are through to the last 16 of the Independent Schools Hockey Cup (ISHC), whilst the U15 and U16 teams remain in the plate competition of both the National Cup and the ISHC, whilst a highlight of the term was most definitely, our U16 team defeating Canford 3-1 away! There is lots of hockey to look forward to after half-term with these cup matches, as well as the U16 & U18 boys’ and girls’ indoor competitions.

Our 1st XI football team have enjoyed their season to date having played matches with Wells Cathedral, Milton Abbey and Downside, with the latter ending in a 2-2 draw after a very exciting encounter. Equally, it has also been great to see our badminton players have the opportunity to test their skills in matches with Wells Cathedral and Sherborne.

As always, none of the above would be possible without the support, enthusiasm and commitment shown by all the staff involved in the games programme, and my thanks goes to everyone who has contributed to such a positive half-term of sport.
