A wealth of activity over the summer holiday improving the King's Bruton estate...
The Support Staff have been extremely busy over the Summer hosting residential courses for Project International and more local groups such as the Bruton Art Society and Bruton Horticultural Society. Our outstanding Grounds Team have been providing cricket pitches to local groups throughout the summer who have been making good use of the fabulous new pavilion.
There has also been a wealth of activity improving the estate and making sure it is up to scratch for the new academic year. There has been a complete refurbishment of changing rooms for pupils, which together with the Hyde development, will make the experience for both King’s and visiting sports teams far better. There have been improvements to the Theatre Green Room and decoration in the Boarding Houses, as well as the long planned project to replace windows in Arion House, under the careful scrutiny of the Conservation Department of Somerset Council due to its listed status. The river wall behind The Queen Elizabeth Music School is well on the way to being reinstated, again requiring a conservation approach due to being Grade II listed and the environmental issues of such a heritage site. The Memorial Hall roof has had routine repairs, as have the chimneys on Arion House. The Abbey Tennis Courts have been completely re-laid and now provide an impeccable playing surface for both tennis year round and netball in the Easter Term.
The final project, which is nearing completion, is the new Health Centre, which is to be relocated to the heart of the School and will provide a bespoke facility to ensure pupils have ready access to our nursing team, as well as therapists and other visiting medical professionals. The finishing touches will be made in the next few weeks with the facility formally opened for the second half of term. It has been an exceptionally busy summer, and the staff have once again made sure everything is ready to go. One benefit of July’s rain are the lush rugby pitches which have been beautifully prepared and are ready to go, without any of the restrictions due to hard pitches of recent years. Every cloud has a silver lining.
