Sport Roundup - Week 5...
Hockey
It was another busy week of hockey with various cup matches and a full block with Kingswood on Saturday.
Tuesday began with the U15 Girls welcoming Ratcliffe College from Leicestershire for the U15 ISHC Plate semi-final and the game did not disappoint. After taking an early lead, King’s could not make their chances count, and with only 5 minutes of the match to go, Ratcliffe equalised. However, this was not the end of the drama as King’s scored their winning goal with a penalty corner in the last seconds of the game. They now look forward to the final versus Kent College Pembury on Thursday this week.
Unfortunately the boys’ 1st XI could not follow suit later in the day as they were defeated by Marlborough College. The last of the cup matches of the week saw the U16 boys travel to Monkton Combe where they won 2-1 to secure passage to the next round where they will face Clifton College.
The boys’ hockey block with Kingswood, as always, was a difficult one, but there were some excellent performances from both individuals and teams alike, in particular the U15A team who were frustrated at not getting more out of their game. The results were as follows:
- 1st XI Lost 4-0: Players of the Match - Mats and Hugo
- 2nd XI Lost 2-0: Player of the Match - Ruben
- 3rd XI Lost 3-0: Player of the Match - Joe
- 4th XI Lost 3-0
- U15A Lost 2-1: Player of the Match - Charlie
- U15B Lost 3-1: Player of the Match - Louis
- U14A Lost 5-0: Player of the Match - Rory
- U14B Lost: Player of the Match - Levi
Netball
We had some very good matches this afternoon, against a strong opposition - Blundell's.
- The 1st Team started exceptionally well against Blundell’s, taking a 7 goal lead at the end of the 1st quarter. This woke up their key players, who then had a huge impact on the game. Although the team fought hard for the rest of the game, they couldn’t hold on and lost 26-37, despite some outstanding shooting from both India and Kitty. Player of the Match was Marcia for her grit and determination.
- The 2nd Team were possibly the team of the week, with their outstanding performance, especially as they were without 2 key players this weekend. The defence were exceptional and with some fantastic feeds into the shooters, Blundell’s couldn’t do anything to keep with our consistent scoring. They won 33-24. Player of the Match was Emily.
- The 3rd Team played very well against a very strong side, but sadly lost 15-26. They were slow to get going, but had an outstanding last quarter to finish the game. Player of the Match was Bella for her outstanding defence.
- The 4th Team played very well and won 15-12 with Issy and Niamh Players of the Match.
- The 5th Team played in only their second competitive fixture of the term and played very well. Once they settled into the game they scored more easily with Eliza Player of the Match, but sadly losing 13-20.
- The Juniors all travelled away, and we had nearly every junior girl representing the School this weekend.
- The U15A team had some key players missing this weekend through injury and cross country running. They played very well against a strong opposition losing 15-31, although they did draw the last quarter. Player of the Match was Emma.
- The U15B team lost 3-22, despite some very good play from Player of the Match, Flo, and shooting from Alexina.
- The U15C Team also had a match and despite some fantastic play from Player of the Match, Edie, they lost 4-20.
The U14s also had 3 teams representing the School this weekend.
- The U14A Team played fantastically to lose by a very small margin of 9-13. Indigo was Player of the Match for her fantastic attacking play.
- The U14B Team lost 5-15 with Evie showing some fantastic promise with her shooting.
- The U14C Team fought hard throughout the game to win 7-6 with Grace being voted Player of the Match.
Despite the loses this was a brilliant weekend of very high standard netball across the age groups. Well done to everyone.
