This year’s Harvest Service donations has seen the King’s Bruton community excel in their generosity, with a record breaking amount of food being donated.

This year, our food donations have gone to the Yeovil Community Foodbank to help support some of the most needy and vulnerable members of our wider community. Currently over 500,000 people in the UK are reliant on food parcels with the World Bank reporting that nearly 2 million people in the UK are undernourished. The Foodbank in Yeovil has seen demand for food treble during the Covid-19 pandemic. Thus, this year’s appeal had an added sense of urgency. I am pleased to report that all seven boarding houses displayed deep generosity, donating a wide variety of food in large quantities. Such donations really will transform so many people’s lives. There is now a minibus bursting full of boxes of donations, waiting to go to Yeovil!

During our Harvest Chapel Service on Wednesday, we took time to pause and reflect on Jesus words in Matthew 25: ³⁴ “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. ³⁵ For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, ³⁶ I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ ³⁷ “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? ³⁸ When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? ³⁹ When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ ⁴⁰ “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’”

These words remind us that Christians are called to care for their brothers and sisters materially and that when we do so, it is as if we are caring for God himself. There can be no greater motivation to care for one another than that. With this message in mind, it is my hope and prayer that our school community will continue to look outwards and seek to be a community that loves the people around us with the same love we have received in Jesus Christ.
