New House have worked hard on the House play ‘The Affairs at Meddler’s Top’ culminating with two outstanding performances this past week.
Set in the 1920s, Sir Hector Croquet is holding a tennis weekend at his country home ‘Meddler’s Top’. Amongst the invited guests are Baroness Svetlana Gorianova, theatrical producer Bouffant Éclair, fading tennis star Peregrine Barrington-Smythe, actress Trellis Trelawney, and the explorer Twitter Fortesque. There is a jewel thief at large in the area and Hector is concerned that his wife, Lady Davinia’s emerald necklace may be the next target. As the play unfolds, the Maid, Blossom, is murdered by one of the guests. In the meantime, it becomes apparent that Lettis Croquet, the attractive and highly eligible young daughter of Lady Davinia and Sir Hector, is being pursued by several of the guests! An hilarious entanglement of affairs ensues. In the meantime, Inspector Topiary and Sergeant Manner are on their way…
Well done to all the cast, crew and support involved with the production. For many of the cast, this was their first time on the stage. However, you would not have known as they all took ownership of their characters. Special mention goes to Ms King and Mr Stainton for their works on props, costume, makeup and set. Thanks also to Mrs Warren for producing the superb programmes. Our deepest thanks go to Mrs Ashworth (New House Tutor) for her dedication and direction of the entire production. Thanks to Thomas and James on sound and lighting, Tyler and Dimitri on backstage support and William and Oskar who served the refreshments during the interval.
