Chemistry Educational Trips

The first Chemistry Symposium of 2019 was held on Monday 28th January at Sherborne Girls School.

Talks were delivered by pupils from Clayesmore, Leweston, Millfield, Sherborne Boys and Sherborne Girls Schools on utilising poisons from frogs and toads, the chemistry of painkillers, CRISPR technology, the uses and dangers of hydrogen fuel cells, the medicinal and cognitive effects of combining benzodiazepines with antidepressants and the chemistry of rockets.

The second talk of the evening was presented by Sam from King’s and described how the invention of the spectroscope led to the discovery of helium. Sam went on the explain how the discovery of this element affected the Periodic Table.

Many thanks to Sherborne Girls School for hosting such an interesting and educational event.
