Sport Hockey

Vicky and Millie have taken the next step to playing hockey for England.

They have both been selected for Under 16 National Age Group Squads (NAGS). Players in these squads represent England at Under 16, 18 and 21 level.  The Under 16 and Under 18 squads are selected at the England Hockey Futures Cup and HiPAC.  Selection for one of these squads is the highest honour that junior hockey players can attain.

From this squad of 34 players, the England Under 16 squad will be selected. The first assessment camp is on the 14/15th November at Lilleshall. From this camp, the squad will be reduced. There will  then be training throughout the winter for all NAGS players. Effectively, therefore, Millie and Vicky are in the top 34 Under 16 players in the country. This is a fantastic achievement, bringing them one step closer to getting their first England Cap.

Vicky and Millie are just two of a talented group of girls representing King's at hockey. On Saturday afternoon, the King’s girls’ hockey teams lined up against KES Bath in their block fixture, well rested and determined to have another successful half term of hockey. The 1st XI was in fine form and KES could not simply live with the pace, directness, and quality of King’s attacking play. As a result, King’s ran out 7-0 winners on an afternoon where everything seemed to click against what was a fairly strong KES side. Goals came from Olivia Hamilton with 5, Ellen Barber Vicky, fresh from her NAGS call-up.

The 2nd XI also had a convincing win after a much improved performance saw them win 5-1 on the difficult KES pitch courtesy of goals from player of the match Harriet Wakelin with 4 and Beth Pretor-Pinney.

The 3rd XI deserve a very special mention as they ended up playing against half of the KES 2nd XI, however, they produced a stunning performance and although they drew 2-2 thanks to a last second equaliser from Imo Moore, they thoroughly deserved to win. Olivia Hughes was the scorer of the first goal with Jenny Paterson being named player of the match. Finally on the senior side, the 4th XI played against a good KES U15B team and lost out by three goals to nil with Amy Williams receiving the player of the match accolade. The Junior As played some fantastic passing hockey and were unlucky not to win more than the final score line of 1-0 having created a plethora of opportunities, however an Honor Mant goal was enough to secure victory with Elodie Mathews being named player of the match. The Junior Bs recorded their first victory of the season with a very impressive 1-0 victory against KES U14A. Rosie Wakelin scored the winner with an unstoppable strike and Issie Hawkins was player of the match after another excellent performance.
