Theme: Default | Skin: Default Skin On a glorious Saturday afternoon, there were some excellent performances from our sports teams.
Tennis
The boys’ 1st and 2nd tennis teams had a triumphant afternoon as they played superbly well to defeat Clayesmore 9-0 and 7-2 respectively. On the girls side, a notoriously tough fixture versus Prior Park saw the 3rd VI be victorious yet again, whilst the U15A team also secured a pleasing 9-0 victory. Well done to Leggy, Florence, Laura, Laura, Moritz and Jamie for being the players of the matches.
Athletics
The athletes enjoyed the ‘Nitro’ event at Kingswood School which saw the inter boys, senior boys’ and open girls’ teams competing against strong opposition. In this team event, it was wonderful to see the girls’ team be victorious as Lucy, Tallulah, Florence, Anstice, Sascha and Lily all played a part in the victory.

Cricket
Cricket at King’s Bruton this week saw a mixture of National Cup and Friendly fixtures take place.
On Tuesday, the 1st XI progressed through to Round 3 of the National School T20 with a 107 run victory over Mount Kelly. Ronnie again leading the way with the bat with a well worked 62, whilst Oliver and Felix contributed with 40 not out and 26 respectively. King’s finished 184-3 off their 20 overs. Mount Kelly struggled to find rhythm with the bat as King’s secured regular breakthroughs restricting Mount Kelly to 77-6 off 20 overs. King’s now host Wellington School in the next round.
Thursday saw more National Cup action take place as our Junior U15A Boys faced King’s College Taunton in the ECB National T20. King’s batted first and posted 266 for 2 off 20 overs with Harry, Oliver and Milo all retiring after securing half centuries. Harry G then produced a fine spell of bowling to claim his 5 wicket haul finishing with figures of 3 overs, 2 maidens, 5 wickets for just 3 runs! King’s Bruton running out winners by 211 runs.
The Junior U15A Girls travelled to Sherborne Girls for a 100 ball friendly on Thursday. King’s restricted Sherborne to 67 for 7 off their allocated balls before a strong batting display saw King’s Bruton win by 3 wickets with 12 balls remaining.
Saturday saw all teams in block fixture action against Bryanston School. A great experience for our 1st XI, with a number of key players missing, this gave an opportunity for others to stand up with both bat and ball. Stand in captain Ben won the toss and elected to bat. Leading by example, Ben scored a very well crafted half century. King’s Bruton finished 125 for 5 off their 30 overs. A number of missed opportunities with the ball and in the field would cost the side as Bryanston got themselves over the line with 4 overs to spare. The 2nd XI found themselves on the wrong side of a very close game, falling just short of Bryanston’s 160. The Junior U15As continued their strong start to the season posting 159 for 5 off their 20 overs with captain Milo scoring 77. King’s bowled extremely well and restricted Bryanston to 49 all out to win by 150 runs. The Junior U15B would have a tough encounter against a strong U14A side. King’s posted a competitive 80 all out but were unable to break key partnerships and lost out by 8 wickets. The 1st XI Girls were involved in a another thriller, missing captain Georgie, they knew others would need to take responsibility in the middle. King’s controlled large parts of the game before Bryanston were able to chase down their total with 10 balls to spare. The U15A Girls won comfortably. Bowling Bryanston out for 44, King’s Bruton won by 8 wickets.
Congratulations to Harry (4th Form, Lyon) who has been presented his Honours Cap with figures of 3 overs, 2 maidens, 5 wickets for just 3 runs for the Junior U15As in the National T20!
Good luck to the Junior U15A Girls’ who travel to Wellington School for their National Schools T20 fixture on Monday and the Boys’ 1st XI who host Wellington in the National T20 Round 3 on Thursday.
