5th & 6th Form Artists enjoyed a trip to London Galleries...
Mr Cole took the art historians to the British Museum as part of their exploration into early civilisations. As a starting point, our pupils navigated their way through the Egyptian Sculpture Rooms to Room 18 showcasing the Parthenon. This was a great place to build upon their recent work and explore the sculptures extracted from the temple dedicated to the goddess Athena. With an introduction into the significance of works on display, our pupils got straight to it recording their initial observations and examining the pediments and metopes. The challenge set was to break down the key elements within the room from the Greek myths to the relief panels recording the religious procession of the people of Athens.
Moving on, pupils had the opportunity to record and examine works that interested them in preparation for their essay which challenged them to contemplate how we consume art in the 21st century.
