On Tuesday evening the annual Inter-House Science Quiz took place.
In the past this has been a tightly fought competition with scientists of all ages battling for the highly valued trophy. In a change of format this year teams went head to head in a knock out competition where teams had to answer as many questions as possible correctly in rounds lasting 4 minutes. In the quarter finals Lyon House beat Blackford House by 8 points to 7, Old House beat Wellesley House 9 points to 6 and New House beat Arion House in a very tight finish by 12 points to 11. Both semi-finals were of a very high quality with both Lyon House and Old House demonstrating excellent knowledge in opposite sides of the draw. The overall semi-final results were Old House beat New House by a margin of 14 points to 5 and Lyon House beat Priory House by 11 points to 8.
In the final the difficulty of the questions was increased along with the length of the round so that both teams had a suitable challenge. The final saw very impressive performances by Alistair Sanford of Old House and Ed McCabe of Lyon House. Both boys demonstrating fantastic knowledge and understanding of all three sciences. However, despite a strong Lyon House performance Old House ran away with the round and won 11 points to Lyon House’s 9 points. The final positions were Old House winners, Lyon House runners up and Priory in third place. My congratulations to all involved; a gallery of some photos from the quiz can be viewed below.
