The Headmaster looks back at a successful Easter Term...
Despite being Headmaster at King’s since 2009, the Easter Term seems always to surprise me with its intensity. One former parent wrote to me this term and described the Easter Term, using the phrase coined by the English philosopher Hobbes, as ‘nasty, brutish and short’. This may be overstating things, but the sentiment has some validity; the Easter Term is packed, the weather is variable, there rarely seems enough weeks in the term, given the amount of ongoing activity, and then an ISI Inspection is added for good measure. I can only thank the whole school community, staff, pupils, parents, and governors who ensured that we met all the standards in a rigorous Inspection, whilst the staff and pupils have ensured that this term has been so eventful and successful. Inter-House activities and competitions are integral to life at King’s, and we witnessed amazing performances in the Inter-House Music, the overall standard of House debating was the highest ever, the whole school participated with energy and a smile in the Inter-House cross-country whilst great credit must go to all the girls in Wellesley for an incredible performance of ‘Alice’.
But we also have all the school sport, DofE, Ten Tors, CCF, music and clubs added in and around the House activities. Clearly academic study will always remain a priority in a King’s education, and I am delighted with the exciting university and apprenticeship offers our U6th Form pupils are receiving, including offers from the universities of Oxford, Cambridge, Stanford and London medical schools. We all deserve a rest over Easter, but we can look back with justified pride at what has been achieved over the course of this busy term.
Best wishes to all the King’s community for a peaceful and relaxing Easter.
