King’s Bruton CCF were delighted to welcome back their 4th Form Cadets for a very short Easter Term at School, just two sessions! Recruits had swapped services at Christmas and were proudly wearing their new Army & Royal Navy uniforms.
The aims in a very short term were to get them enthused again about CCF and working with their friends in new situations.
The RN practiced their drill and then took part in a game to learn the correct parts of the ship. Later they had to work together to complete a survival task in which their yacht had been damaged in a storm. Both activities were performed with great energy and thought and showed the cadets the benefits of working together rather than as individuals.
The Army were straight into Fieldcraft, and covered a range of activities including camouflage, patrolling, crossing obstacles and various forms of crawling.
Next term is exciting for the Cadets with the RN sailing at Cheddar Reservoir and both the RN and Army joining together for an overnight Field Day in Truro which includes coasteering and night navigation. The term ends with the summer camp, at King’s Bruton this year due to C19 restrictions, but a fantastic four day camp has been planned that should be a good end to a difficult year.
