Tuesday evening saw the return of cricket at King’s Bruton.
We didn’t quite get the weather we had hoped for, but all that mattered to the players, and the parents with their picnic hampers, is that it stayed dry!
We had a collection of 25 local current King's Bruton pupils, future pupils, and a few others to who also wished to play. The youngest player was in Year 6 and the oldest, was the current 1XI Captain, who is leaving King's this year.
The game was managed fantastically and maturely from our U6th Form and L6th Form leaders, and everyone was able to bat and bowl. This is typical of the atmosphere I have come to know at King's, with our pupils going out of their way to make others feel included and appreciated, able to walk the line of competitiveness and inclusivity perfectly.
There was some fantastic cricket to be played and in the first innings, and one highlight would be our 1XI Captain managed to hit a 6 through the open door of the Pavilion, landing inside the Pavilion and breaking the frame of the 1995 KSB 1XI. This would prove vital as that team went on to win the game, by 6 runs.
As I am leaving this summer, this game was the perfect way for me to cast a positive light on this cricket season. Whilst there was some fantastic cricket played, the memory that will be at the forefront of my mind, was watching the senior boys managing the game so maturely, which is something bigger than cricket, and something that will stay with me forever.

It was fantastic to be able to watch our cricketers, boys and girls of all ages, coming together to play again on the beautiful Hyde pitch in such an enjoyable, limited overs, social cricket match, and my thanks to Louis Corbin-O'Grady for all his organisation.
