Our Chinese pupils have been preparing to celebrate the Chinese New Year. 

Johnny took the stage in Assembly on Monday with admirable confidence and a clear voice to talk to the School about the Chinese New Year. In addition to New Year wishes to everybody, Johnny also had words of wisdom for the Chinese pupils at King’s who will be missing this important festival in their home country.

"This Saturday, we will be celebrating the Chinese New Year. As one of the oldest countries in the world, people maintain the culture. The calendar we are now using is called the Gregorian calendar. But in ancient China, people used the Lunisolar calendar to count days. The 25^th January is exactly the first day of the Lunisolar calendar. On this special day, family members join together, sit around the dinner table, and enjoy this precious moment. People exchange gifts and red envelopes containing money to start a new year. Red lanterns are hung outside the houses, and people dress in red. For all the pupils who celebrate Chinese New Year on Saturday, it will be quite difficult for you that you can’t be with your family. But always remember to look around you. King’s is a big family. Cherish every moment, friends, wishing you a happy Chinese New Year.  恭喜发财 Hope you get rich." - Johnny

All our Chinese pupils took over the Hospitality Department (with the very kind permission and support of Mrs Vigers-Belgeonne) and joined in for a creative cook-up of real Chinese food in celebration of the Chinese Spring Festival and New Year. Steve made soup, they all joined in chopping and stir frying a vegetable based dish and Mrs Vigers-Belgeonne had prepared the bases for Sichuan dumplings, which everybody wrapped, steamed and then tucked into. Apart from proving to be a great team of young chefs, it was great fun sharing this moment and the food was just delicious.. Gong Xi Fa Cai!

On Saturday, all the International pupils will get together at The Chapel for a supper in celebration of Chinese New Year.
