Tuesday evening saw a minibus full of excited 4th Form Drama pupils make their way to Poole’s Lighthouse Theatre for a performance of “Things I Know to be True” by the nationally acclaimed theatre company, Frantic Assembly.
A couple of the 6th Form Drama pupils joined us for the evening, they had seen the show this time last year on its original tour, but for the rest of us it was a fresh and profound experience. Frantic Assembly have developed their reputation utilising physical theatre and movement to express the nuances of relationships and the depth and complexity of human emotion. This performance did not disappoint. The play explores the intricacies of family relationships, centring upon Fran, the charismatic matriarch of the family. Hilariously funny, witty, playful, tender, shocking and heart breaking in equal measure, we all left the theatre feeling raw and chatting excitedly about the outstanding performances and beautifully simplistic staging which combined to give us an unforgettable night at the theatre and great material for live performance reviews.
