Two Ten Tors teams from King's have just completed their final training weekend.
Both the 35 mile teams departed on Friday evening and headed to the North East side of the North Moor camping out under the stars at Shilstone Tor. Pupils pitched their tents, cooked some food and then settled in for the night ready for their 5am wake up call. By 6am both teams were heading for their first tor and eager to get under way. On the Saturday they both teams walked 20 miles each and ended up in the South West corner near Staple Tor via different routes; it was tough going and the navigation was hard but they made it back in good time. They again pitched their tents and set up camp, nursing their sore feet in the stream and eating their army ration packs. On the Sunday morning both teams had twelve miles to complete and were again under way by 6am. The weather was glorious and there were plenty of other teams enjoying the moor over the weekend. It was a tough couple of days walking but their preparation has meant that they should find the real event easier to deal with; all will be revealed in two weeks time when we head off to Dartmoor!
