The start of term staff training took a different twist: the training was led by pupils...
As a result of a pupil initiative, the Sexual Health Response Committee asked if they could inform staff of their experience of sexual harassment from their perspective. Senior pupils asked pupils to come forward with information, and subsequently made a film which was shown to the staff. Isaac, the Deputy Head Boy, gave a powerful and insightful introduction to set the scene: he used the training he had received from outside speakers, to educate the staff. Teachers then discussed various scenarios in small groups, and they fed back responses to the staff body. The training was constructive, pertinent and worthwhile.
The Sexual Health Response Group has been meeting since September 2021, and began as a result of the testimonies on the Instagram site Everyone’s Invited. In the Easter term, the senior pupils hope to lead a whole school discussion and train 4th Form pupils on the topic, to enable them to leave a legacy.
