On Tuesday afternoon, the L6^th Form Biologists carried out river sampling at various sites along the River Brue - which runs through the School site.

This was for one of their A-Level Required Practicals which involved them investigating how different environmental factors affected the distribution of a specific species. Despite the rain from the previous day making the river siltier than usual, the pupils were able to find loads of life in the river. Mayfly nymph, damselfly nymph, water beetles, freshwater shrimp and flatworms were amongst the species found. Pupils even caught a small bullfish and a sizeable brown trout! It was lovely to see the pupils out of the classroom demonstrating brilliant fieldwork skills, and they collected excellent results which we will analyse at the start of next term.

The L6^th Form Biologists have been a pleasure to teach this year, and yesterday afternoon was the perfect way to round off a busy and rather different year!
