King’s is incredibly proud of such strong performances from our Senior Mathematicians writes Laurie Phippard, Head of Maths.
The Maths Department is thrilled to announce some excellent results in the 2016 UKMT Senior Maths Challenge, with nearly 90% of Kings Bruton 6th Form entrants gaining a certificate. Particular congratulations go to Jinjin Bai, who was graded gold and has been invited to participate in the follow on ‘Kangaroo’ round early in December. Furthermore, Jinhuan Zhang and Emma Walker have achieved a Silver Award whilst in the 5th Form. Other results saw King’s scoop ten silver awards and eleven bronze awards.
On Wednesday 16th November a team of two L6th Form and two U6th Form further mathematicians also travelled to King Alfred’s School Highbridge to compete in the UKMT Senior Mathematics Team Challenge. This separate competition consisted of a group round, cross number and a shuttle round, in which the teams answered thought-provoking questions against the clock and without a calculator. The team, consisting of: Ryan Longman, Alistair Sanford, Henry Oliver and Eric Ma, did very well being placed 10th overall in what was a challenging yet entertaining team challenge.
