The L6th Form Business Studies, Economics and BTEC Entrepreneurship pupils enjoyed a visit to the BMW Mini factory in Oxford.
The pupils began the trip by watching a video explaining the evolution of the Mini (the brain child of Sir Alec Issigonis) from a relatively cheap family run-around to the icon it is today. Pupils then had a guided tour around the £1bn body plant and saw at first hand the sea of robots assembling the chassis for every conceivable variety of mini - from the Countryman to the John Cooper Works car. We were then shown around the Assembly Plant by our tour guide and saw at first-hand how quality assurance is key to every individually ordered Mini; right to the female ostrich feathers used to brush off every speck of dust!
