Monday 13^th of March saw the culmination of the 2016 Inter-House Debating Competition.

Both Blackford House and Arion House teams had won through two preliminary rounds and the subsequent knock-out stages to reach the final - debating along the way a number of diverse and challenging sociopolitical matters such as ‘Prison Reform’ and ‘Media Stings’. Over the past two years Debating has seen something of renaissance at King’s, and this evolution was no more evident than in the final. The competing houses contested the motion of: “This House believes that populism is a threat to democracy”. This was a contest of spiralling rhetoric characterised by thorough research, confidence, and some outstandingly stylistic oratory. The Blackford team of Seb, Toby, and Archie won the day by a margin of just three points. Arion’s team of India, Alice and Megan fought hard and should be hugely proud of their efforts in which was a close call. All houses are to be congratulated on a stimulating, progressive and thought-provoking season of debating. A video of the final can be watched below.
