The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award silver walking and cycling training took place over this past weekend (15th – 16th October).
Eight groups of 5th Form pupils camped out on Hyde on a wet Saturday night before packing up and heading off first thing on Sunday. The walkers completed a challenging but enjoyable 18km route around the local area including Lamyatt and Batcombe. The three cycling groups set out west towards Butleigh on a route of about forty miles.
Without exception, all who took part were a credit to themselves and their groups; although they may be weary legged for a few days, they should be immensely proud of their efforts. As a training expedition, it is important to learn from the experience and think about how to perform and cope better in the subsequent, longer expeditions. An album of photos from the weekend can be viewed below.
