We are delighted that King’s Bruton was able to be part of a hugely successful Somerscience Festival...

Building off the back of the success and interest seen in 2023, it was great for both the DT and Psychology departments to represent King’s at the Festival and provide enrichment to those in attendance. I am very grateful for all that Mr Hart (Head of Design and Technology) and Dr Larsen (Head of Psychology) did to ensure that King’s was so well represented, and for all the pupils who helped on the day and explained both projects to those visiting the Somerscience Festival.

L6th Form Psychology pupils did an excellent job on the ‘Brain Power’ stand at the Somerscience Festival on Monday. It was an exceptionally busy and fun day with a constant stream of visitors to the stand. The pupils were great ambassadors for the School, testing over 200 people on their experiments, which links to their research methods topic, and educating people on interesting brain facts and what is involved in their A Level Psychology course! Pupils also had the opportunity to visit the other stands and take part in experiments and interactive displays. Well done to all those involved, now it’s time to analyse all the data we collected!

Some of the senior members of the Greenpower Team were present at Somerscience on Monday. Whilst at Haynes, the location for Somerscience this year, they had a massive amount of interest in not just the Greenpower series, but also the engineering, teamwork and manufacturing skills that the KSB MotorSport Team had on display, The pupils were brilliant and were very busy talking about their Greenpower passions to a wide range of interested parties with ages varying from 2 to 82. Technical knowledge was shared, both ways, and the variety of questions poised about the Greenpower Challenge, the Team’s approach to the challenge and the many practical aspects of vehicle meant there was rarely a quiet moment. The morning session appeared slightly busier than the afternoon session, but in total we must have had around 300 people visit our stand. It was an excellent event, and the Team can be rightfully proud of what they achieved and how they represented the School.
