Badminton
The Wells Cathedral home fixture earlier this season was a great experience for our King’s badminton players, and the away fixture this weekend proved to be no different. King's held their own against a very experienced, skilful group of players, pushing them close in many matches and learning a huge amount in the process. The Wells coach noted the improved technique since the home fixture and complimented the outstanding manners, attitude and sportsmanship shown by our King’s players.
King’s Player of the Match was Alex for his two wins and his competitive, committed play in both the singles and doubles.
Football
1st XI Match Report
Thursday versus Wells Cathedral away
An outstanding all round team performance and a long overdue victory. As the game progressed King’s began to wrestle control of the midfield and started to play some good quality football. As the pressure built, we gained a corner and an excellent delivery from Jack had Oliver on the end of it to knock in from inside the 6-yard box, we were level and on top. The team continued to play well and a through ball to Jack allowed Jack to hit an unstoppable shot past their keeper.
The second half was mostly even and Wells equalised when a speculative but well struck shot rebounded out and was knocked in by their incoming forward. With 5 minutes left on the clock we pushed forward and looked for a winner. A corner was won and another excellent delivery from Jack was scrambled into the net by Tommy , his first goal for King’s. King’s won 3-2. Player of the Match was Jack.
Netball
The first VII (U19 team) played in the Somerset County Netball tournament on Wednesday.
They performed exceptionally well, playing King’s Taunton in the first game, with a convincing 11-5 win. We then played a very assertive Taunton School side, and despite being within 2 goals at half time, eventually lost the game. After a short break we played Millfield, who were eventually unbeaten all day, and played very well to finish 3-10. The final 3 games were against Wells Cathedral, winning 8-6, and incredible game against Richard Huish, winning 12-11 in the final play of the game and Downside which was a convincing win.
Despite winning all but 2 of our games, other results meant that we finished in 4th by 1 goal. This was a fantastic afternoon and shows much promise for the netball season after Christmas.
Teams of the Week are the U15As hockey and the 1st XI football team
