5th Form pupils enjoyed their 11 mile Silver DofE walk and campout training expedition

Although a few pupils had to drop out of the weekend’s 24 hour Silver DofE training, the 36, 5th Form pupils who did complete it should be very proud of their performance. Camping on Saturday night up on Farr Field was not the easiest, as temperatures during the night plummeted to close to freezing. However, with not much sleep had, pupils were up in good time and good spirit, ready to embark on an 11 mile walk with all of their kit which took them to King Alfred’s Tower and back. For those who wanted to, there was a trip up to the top of King Alfred’s Tower for some lovely views before they set off for the return leg after lunch. And as is always the case for our October training, the sun shone brightly!

While across the 6 groups there were clearly areas that need to be improved and reflected upon; such as navigation, choice of kit, walking as a group and first aid, the attitude shown was impressive. Mr Loveless and Miss Flavell would like to thank Mrs Portch, Miss Dixon, Miss Russell, Miss Checketts and Mr Lee (along with his fabulous collie, Whisper) for giving up their Sunday and for their boundless energy and willingness to provide guidance to the pupils. Now for Exmoor, in March!
